As for today, the topic of confidence in the Lord has really been on my heart. I read something the other night that really stuck with me. It went something like this:
Angel: She stopped praying about it.
God: I noticed.
Angel: Does that mean she's given up?
God: No. It means she's finally surrendered. There's a difference. Before, she was praying to change my mind. She was praying to convince me to give her what she wanted. But now? Now she's letting go. She's stopped fighting me for control. She's trusting me to do what's best, even if it's not what she asked for.
Angel: So what happens now?
God: Now I can finally move. When she was holding on so tightly, I couldn't pry it from her hands. But now that she's released it, I can replace it with what I've been holding for her all along.
Angel: She's going to be surprised, isn't she?
God: She has no idea how good it's about to get.

Such a powerful message. This isn't telling us not to pray at all or sit idly by, but rather, to fully surrender all our worries, fears, hopes, dreams, and desires to the Lord. To fully open our hands so that we can receive what's to come. Prayer is effective when we do it from a place of surrender and trust. We can't accept His good gifts if we are holding on so tight for control. Besides, what if what we are holding onto isn't really good for us? Sometimes we convince ourselves that we know us best. But how could we? We don't know goodness apart from God, so how could we expect to know what's good for us when we don't give God the space to act?
Oftentimes, I find myself praying that the Lord would tend to my heart and my own desires, but what if that's not in alignment with what He wants in my life? Do I trust Him enough to let go? That's an everyday battle. BUT we can rest knowing that His steadfast goodness has our best interests in mind.
I was doing my quiet time, and Psalm 16:5-6 tied perfectly into this:
"LORD, you are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance."
He holds our future and is working it all out for our good! We can rest in the hope that we have no idea how good it's about to get! Until next time...
